Platinum award commemorates Nestlé’s food safety success

Back to Press releases

For over a century, Nestlé Singapore has unwaveringly committed itself to delivering high-quality nutrition and wellness products to consumers locally as well as across the globe. Nestlé Singapore was awarded the Platinum Award at this year’s Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) Food Safety Awards. This award, the latest among the multiple awards Nestlé Singapore has attained is evident of the firm’s rigorous standards for food safety, trusted quality and product excellence.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Nestlé SA which is headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, Nestlé Singapore first established its local presence in 1912 with the opening of its factory in Jurong.

Operations were initially modest, starting with the trading of MILKMAID condensed milk under the Anglo-Swiss Milk Company. Since then, local operations have expanded and evolved to function as a core factory producing Malt Extract, MILO®, coffee mixes and soya sauces.

Today, the factory functions as the production bedrock of several exciting product innovations. More recently this included the launch of MILO® Ice Energy, a fresh spin on Singapore’s favourite nutritional energy drink which leverages on the well-loved MILO® van recipe. This is MILO®’s gift to the nation in conjunction with SG50 celebrations.

The Jurong factory diligently adheres to stringent Food Safety & HACCP, quality management, hygiene, Good Manufacturing Practice GMP and Nestlé Quality Management System standards to safeguard product integrity, safety and quality.

Mr Rajiv Deraniyagala, Managing Director, Nestlé Singapore, said: “The award reinforces Nestlé Singapore’s ongoing efforts and deep commitment to provide tasty and safe food and beverage solutions to everyone in Singapore. We remain passionate in our drive to deliver science-backed nutrition and wellness benefits, while delighting our customers with great quality and innovation.”

In recognition of its robust quality standards, the firm has consistently received several Certificates of Commendation for Excellence since 1994 in food processing, sanitation and hygiene by the former Ministry of Environment (Food Division), now known as the AVA.

A first

Nestlé Singapore’s consistent quality track record led it to be selected as one of the five winners of the Singapore Quality Award (SQA) last year. The awards, organised by SPRING Singapore recognise the best in business excellence. The prestigious win was unprecedented – the first for a factory and an F&B company in Singapore.

“We are delighted to receive these awards as they positively reinforce the progress and contributions we have made in food safety. Nevertheless, we strive to continually innovate and do better so that we can keep up with the rapidly changing landscape that we operate in today. We will work tirelessly towards providing robust value to all our customers in Singapore by refining our safety standards, offering enriched products and bettering lives through improved nutrition and wellness,” said Mr Deraniyagala.
