Nestlé Healthy Kids paid special tribute to our Singapore chefs for the first time this year! To celebrate International Chefs Day (20 October) in a meaningful way, Nestlé Healthy Kids teamed up with chefs world-wide to educate school-going children about healthy cooking and encourage them to adopt healthy eating habits.

In Singapore, we worked closely with Nestlé Professional, Singapore Chefs Association and At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy and took 30 children from Tanjong Katong Primary School through an experiential and immersive culinary journey– tasting, touching and cooking various healthy foods.

Aged between 11 to 12 years old, the kids got to hear first-hands from professional chefs about their vocation, learnt all about the seven colours of healthy foods and prepared healthy meals like Waldorf salad and wok-fried brown rice with shimeiji mushrooms. Mr Chow Phee Chat, Nestlé Singapore’s Director, Communications and Corporate Affairs, was also present at the event to address the audience.

Given Singapore’s growing concern about climbing rates of obesity, this year’s event theme Healthy Kids - Healthy Future, address a critical need as our lifestyles evolve to become increasingly sedentary and dependent on high-sugar, convenience foods.

Nestlé believes in empowering our young with the necessary skills and know-how to make informed decisions when it comes to nutrition, health and wellness. Mr Chow said: “Starting early matters because these formative years are crucial in developing lifelong habits. This was why Nestlé Healthy Kids was launched globally in 2009.”

Targeted at educating school-going children on nutrition and health, Nestlé Healthy Kids develops these programmes in partnership with key stakeholders and governments globally — tailoring our initiatives according to different nutritional needs across the various markets.

Since its establishment, Nestlé Healthy Kids programmes has expanded to 80 different countries across the world, impacting lives and creating positive change. In total it has reached more than 7 million children across countries like Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East and the Americas.

Mr Chow added that the drive to further Nestlé Healthy Kids in Singapore will continue over the next few years. “We are committed to promoting nutritional awareness and shaping healthier habits in Singapore for many more years to come. Keep your eyes peeled for more exciting updates on Nestlé Healthy Kids in Singapore come 2016!” he said.
