As Singapore readies itself for the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, MILO® Singapore and Yuhua Primary School came together earlier today to show their support for Team Singapore athletes.

Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry and Mayor South West District graced the event as Guest of Honour at the school’s premises.

National sporting icon and Olympic Gold medalist, Joseph Schooling attended the session on behalf of Team Singapore. Over 1,000 children from Yuhua Primary School, along with student representatives from Shuqun Secondary School and Crest Secondary School were present. During the event, Joseph shared inspirational and motivational nuggets about his life as a sportsman. In addition, he candidly answered questions posed to him by children during an interactive question-and-answer segment.

MILO® Singapore also presented Joseph with a board filled with heartfelt well-wishes from students of the school, wishing him and all Team Singapore athletes’ success at the games.

Joseph Schooling said, “On behalf of Team Singapore, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support. It means a lot to know that there are so many fellow Singaporeans rooting for our success. As athletes, such support fuels us with the mental strength to keep pushing on day after day. Witnessing all the enthusiasm and energy first-hand among these kids today just drives me to work even harder to do my very best at the SEA Games and hopefully bring good news home!”

Inculcating positive values and an active lifestyle

Mr Chow Phee Chat, Director, Marketing Communications and Corporate Affairs, Nestlé Singapore, said of the event, “We wanted to celebrate MILO® values like sportsmanship, hard work and resilience in our young. This is part of our ongoing efforts to get Singaporeans to embrace a healthier lifestyle through sports and an active lifestyle.

“The well-wishes board which Joseph received on behalf of Team Singapore today is symbolic of our encouragement to all athletes that Singapore is behind them, rooting for them to realise their dreams and make our nation proud! We hope our next generation will be inspired by Joseph Schooling’s tenacity and dedication through his sharing and similarly strive to achieve their very best – both at sport and in life.”

Sharing her thoughts on the event, Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry and Mayor South West District said, “Our Team Singapore athletes have trained hard and long to represent Singapore. They deserve every ounce of our support. The cheer and encouragement from our students here today is a heartfelt show of pride and admiration for our athletes who are living, inspiring models. Each of us too, can play our part to express our solidarity and support for Team Singapore. It will motivate and give them the extra strength to the finishing line.”

The event was organised by MILO® Singapore and supported by Yuhua Primary School. MILO® is a partner of Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and The Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) for the 29th SEA Games.

The children at Yuhua Primary School were kept energised throughout the morning with cups of MILO® from the iconic MILO® van. During the event, the entire primary school cohort took part in a short workout led by MILO® Singapore and Joseph Schooling which was aimed at keeping them energized during their school day. The children also had the chance to exercise and play at the pop-up MILO® Carnival area which was located within the school’s compounds.
